The Corner baseball team (12-5, 5-1) notched an important Class 5A, Area 11 series win over Hayden this week. 

The seventh-ranked Jackets got a complete-game effort from starter Brayden Rowe, who struck out 10 Wildcats on Tuesday during an 8-3 home win. Rowe tossed 18 first-pitch strikes and held Hayden to four hits, compared to Corner’s nine. Rowe came through with two hits of his own, which scored three runs.

Corner took the series on Thursday with an 8-5 road win and added a 7-3 victory in the nightcap.

In Thursday’s opener, the Yellow Jackets put 10 hits on two Hayden pitchers and scored at least one run in all but one of seven innings. Cole Fuller drove in two runs, matching Isaiah McCracken in that particular category. Fuller, McCracken and Dan Knowlton all logged multi-hit games.

The Gardendale baseball team (8-3, 2-0) opened up Class 6A, Area 11 play with a sweep of Jackson-Olin. An 18-7 difference went Gardendale’s way on Tuesday at Rickwood Field before an 11-1 home win on Thursday.

Clay Norris and Colby Tittle drove in three runs apiece for the Rockets in the series opener.

Justin Valentine struck out eight batters on Thursday in four innings pitched. He had plenty of offensive support as Tittle, Carson Cook and Hunter Stokes swung in two runs apiece for the home team.

The Corner softball team (10-4, 3-1) bounced back from a tough 10-1 Area 11 loss to Mortimer Jordan with a 15-1 area win at Jasper Thursday.

The Yellow Jackets scored two runs in the first, five in the second, seven in the third and one in the fourth to earn the win in five innings. As a team, Corner collected 16 hits, including three apiece from Jaden Goodwin and Anna Hinkle. Hinkle matched Ivey Hill with three RBIs. Senior Brantly Bonds recorded two hits, resulting in two RBIs.

The Fultondale softball team slipped to 4-12 on the season with a 9-5 loss at Shades Valley Thursday.

Fultondale jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first and maintained a slim advantage until the Mounties cracked open a five-run sixth that ultimately made the difference. The visiting Wildcats entered that half-inning with a 5-4 lead.

For Fultondlae, Madison Carlton provided two hits to go with a pair of RBIs from BreAnna Lindsey. Morgan Rascoe worked six innings in the circle and finished with five strikeouts.

The Mortimer Jordan baseball team (10-8, 2-2) has broken a three-game skid with two wins this week.

The Blue Devils went to McAdory for a 4-3 win on Monday and hosted Hueytown to a 6-4 victory on Tuesday.

Junior Griffin Busby drove in the go-ahead run in the top of the sixth inning at McAdory. His one hit of the day broke a 3-3 tie and sent his team off with a 4-3 win. Senior Garek Hall went 2 for 4 at the plate with two runs scored to go with a double from designated hitter Ian Ellerbrock.

Ellerbrock tossed the final frame to earn the save. Preston Jones pitched the first six innings to record six strikeouts and three walks in the road win.

On Tuesday, Mortimer Jordan had to overcome a four-run second from the Gophers. Blue Devil starter Grayson Nabors would hold Hueytown scoreless for his remaining two innings and Garrett Green would provide three innings of shutout relief.

Hall doubled in two runs in the second to go with an RBI from Garrison McCleney in the fourth and an RBI from second baseman Tripp Horton in the sixth.

The Gardendale softball team (17-2-1) has rattled off eight straight wins over the last two weeks.

Ranked No. 4 in the first two Alabama Sports Writers Association Class 6A polls, the Rockets took an 8-4 home win from Sumiton Christian on Tuesday and traveled to Carver-Birmingham for a 17-0 victory on Thursday.

Juniors Abigail Waters and Kailey Vaughn paced the Gardendale offense with three hits apiece and two runs scored Tuesday against the Eagles. Senior Kylee Franklin drove in five runs on two hits.

The Rockets disposed of Class 6A, Area 11 foe Carver-Birmingham in three innings. Gardendale put up 12 runs in the top of the first and five more in the second to meet mercy-rule criteria.

The visitors finished with 10 total RBIs, including two apiece from Kendall Stricklin, Sarah Beth Brake and Kailey Vaughn. Kaitlyn Clark, Haley Horton and Preslie Ross each pitched a single inning to score a no-hit shutout, striking out the Rams in order.

The Pinson Valley softball team (13-16) knocked off Clay-Chalkville 10-0 on Tuesday in five innings.

Jordan Walker found three hits and drove in four runs for the Indians. Shauna Clevenger drove in two runs on as many hits and Hope Cole enjoyed three hits of her own against the Cougars.

Cole also struck out eight batters in five complete.

The Tribe also lassoed a 20-4 win over Pelham on Thursday. Pinson scored 10 runs in the top-half of the sixth to end things early. Ka’Mya Hampton had five RBIs to go with three apiece from Keara Gibbs and Mollie Peoples.

The Fultondale baseball team (3-9, 0-2) led off Class 3A, Area 8 play on the wrong foot this week.

Three straight losses to Oakman came in discouraging fashion. Oakman won the three-game set by a combined score of 58-5.

Oakman traveled on Tuesday for a 24-0 win in five innings before hosting a doubleheader on Thursday, which resulted in two more mercy-rule endings.
