City schools to host language camp

The Cullman High School baseball team was recognized by the Cullman City School Board Tuesday night for their recent state championship victory.

The Cullman City School System will be hosting several camps for students over the summer after they were approved during Tuesday night’s meeting of the Cullman City School Board.

The system will host its fourth annual Bridging the Gap Summer Camp English language tutoring program during the summer, along with the system’s inaugural Elementary Spanish Summer Camp that will take place on June 10-13.

The board also approved a partnership with the North Alabama Agriplex to host one-week summer camps at the East Elementary and West Elementary outdoor classrooms over the summer.

The board also approved the hiring of Dawn NeSmith as the system’s new Student Services Coordinator, beginning May 28. NeSmith will be replacing Richard Templeton, who is leaving the system for a position in the Muscle Shoals City School System.

Cullman City Schools Superintendent Susan Patterson said NeSmith is coming from the Morgan County School System, where she has worked for 26 years.

In other business, the board:

Approved April 2019 payroll of $1,991,035.21, invoices paid of $762,969, financial statements and bank reconciliations.

Approved the following Head Start items: Expenditures Report for April 2019, Health/Nutrition/Disabilities/Enrollment Report for April 2019, SF-425 Quarterly Report- March 31, SF-425 Semi-Annual Report- March 31.

Gave permission to surplus/salvage fleet vehicle- 1994 Chevrolet Pickup from the technology department.

Gave permission to surplus a 2008 John Deere Estate Series zero-turn mower from West Elementary School.

Gave permission to salvage to broken 32-inch television from East Elementary School.

Gave permission for CMS seventh and eight graders to travel to Williamsburg, Virginia (Colonial Williamsburg and Bacon’s Castle), Jamestown, Virginia (Jamestowne Island, Voorhees Archaerium and Jamestown Settlement) and Yorktown, Virginia (Yorktown Victory Center, Yorktown Battlefields and Shirley Plantation) on June 3-9, 2020.

Gave permission for CHS HOSA Future Health Professionals to travel to Orlando, Florida to attend the international conference and competition on June 18-23.

Gave permission for CHS fishing team to travel to National High School Championship in Paris, Tennessee on August 8-9.

Gave permission for CHS football, baseball and basketball senior players to travel with coaches to Ocoee, Tennessee on June 13.

Gave permission for CHS band to travel to New York City on Nov. 9-13 to represent Alabama in Veterans Day performance at the Statue of Liberty.

Gave permission to salvage the following items from Head Start: 60 child chairs, two kidney tables, three small wood tables, two small blue tables, two small red tables, one book stand, three kitchen sets, three art easels and three drying racks. All items are in poor or fair condition.

Approved Cullman City Schools FY 2019 Budget Amendment #1.

Gave permission for Cullman City Primary School to conduct a Kindergarten Camp during the first two days of school: Boys will attend school on Aug. 7 and girls will attend on Aug. 8.

Approved a recommendation by Stephen Ward & Associates, Inc. to offer a contract to Alabama Roofing & Sheet Metal Co., Inc. as the lowest base bid received for the Cullman Middle School Round Building Roof Repair Project.

Approved Change Order #1 on Cullman High School Baseball Field Reconstruction.

Gave permission to let bids for Bid #05-21-19-02 for the Cullman City Schools’ Bus Replacement. The replacement will be a 2020 model or newer, 72 passenger class “C” school bus, which is to meets all current state and federal specifications at the time of manufacture.

Gave permission to contract with Jones Institute for Rehabilitative Audiology, LLC to provide educational audiology services beginning May 22 through Sept. 20, 2020.

Gave permission to provide a $100 per day stipend for Cullman City Schools teachers grades K-3 to attend the ARI Structured Literacy Training sponsored by the Alabama Reading Initiative.

Gave permission to provide a $75 per day stipend for CCPS instructional assistants to attend the two-day Essential Literacy Skills training sponsored by ARI Structured Literacy Training (CCPS Title One funds).

Gave permission to provide a $100 per day stipend for Head Start and Pre-K teachers to attend the ARI Structured Literacy Training (Head Start and OSR funds).

Gave permission to provide a $75 per day stipend for Head Start and Pre-K teachers to attend the ARI Structured Literacy Training (Head Start and OSR funds).

Gave permission to provide a $100 stipend to Penny Clark and Amanda Gunter for one day during the summer of 2019 to work on second grade Child Find.

Gave permission for West Elementary School to adopt the entire State of Alabama Approved Textbook List for technology (computer science and digital literacy). Approved by the West Elementary School Textbook Committee.

Gave permission for Cullman City Primary School to adopt the entire State of Alabama Approved Textbook List for technology (computer science and digital literacy). Approved by the Cullman City Primary School Textbook Committee.

Gave permission for Cullman City Primary School to supplement their mathematics and reading instruction with the following programs/materials: Pink Cat Site License, Lexia site license, scholastic magazines.

Approve the Head Start NGA for the FY2019 COLA for the 2018-2019 budget period.

Gave permission for Head Start to enter into a partnership agreement for the 2019-2020 school year with Urgent Care of Cullman to conduct TB screenings.

Approved the Health Services Advisory Agreement between Cullman City Head Start and Dr. Heidi Blair for the 2019-2020 school year.

Approved the following Head Start Partnership Agreements for the 2019-2020 school year: Dr. Emily Che Flores-vision screening services, Cullman Regional Medical Center-dietician consultation services.
