The Gardendale City Council took a moment Monday to honor a Gardendale resident who for years has been a fixture at city council meetings.

Mayor Kenny Clemons presented Birmingham News reporter Wayne Martin with a replica of the city’s Millennium Park clock and thanked him for his years of service covering Gardendale as part of his beat.

Martin, who is set to retire on Sept. 19, told Clemons he had enjoyed covering the city and the council as part of his beat.

In other business, the council:

• voted to clean up three pieces of property, located on Elm Street, Gardenbrook Circle and Pineywood Road, and assess the charges to the owners as part of violations of the weed control ordinance

• accept Carrington Way and Carrington Drive as dedicated streets for maintenance purposes

The council will meet again on Sept. 15 at 6 p.m.
