Gov. Kay Ivey’s office has announced the governor will be making a “major economic development” at 2 p.m. today.

The presumed announcement is about a joint $1.6 billion Toyota and Mazda manufacturing plant that will be located in southeastern Limestone County. Members of the Limestone County Commission met at 8 a.m. this morning and left after the meeting en route to Montgomery for an economic development announcement, though none of the commissioners publicly named the company.

If reports are true, the manufacturing plant would provide at least 4,000 jobs, with the possibility of even more through additional automotive suppliers.

The companies had narrowed their search between Alabama and North Carolina. The Charlotte News & Observer, citing sources close to the deal, confirmed North Carolina had lost the project and the plant would be built in Alabama.
