PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Raiders surge past Danville; Warriors sweep Vinemont

DANVILLE — Kallen Sharpton grabbed a team-high 17 points to lift Good Hope to a 51-43 road victory versus the Hawks on Monday afternoon.

The Raiders, who have won five of their past six outings, also claimed contributions from Noah Fendley (10), Cole Maddox (nine) and Isaac McDonald (eight) on the offensive side of the ball.

Coach Drew Adam’s squad is now 11-8 this season.

% West Point 49, Vinemont 23: The Warriors held a 19-point halftime lead and eventually earned a home victory against the Eagles on Monday.

Kolton Sapp (11), Coby Sullins (eight), Cameron Bates (seven) and Dalton White (six) were the top contributors for West Point (9-10).

Vinemont was paced by Katch Johnson (eight), Clay Rodgers (six) and Jack Hill (five).

% Good Hope 72, West Morgan 59: The Raiders — behind Cole Maddox’s 29 points — avenged a previous loss to the Rebels with a dominant home victory on Saturday.

Isaac McDonald (14) and Landyn Freeman (eight) were Good Hope’s other top scorers.


Varsity Girls

% West Point 61, Vinemont 20: The Lady Warriors improved to 14-7 this season following an excellent showing against the Lady Eagles on Monday.

Brooke Brownfield led the charge with 15 points, while Micah Oldacre (10), Olivia Ball (seven) and Molly Pendley (seven) were next in line offensively for Class 5A No. 8 West Point.

Five other players netted at least three points for coach Richie Penn’s squad.

Vinemont, meanwhile, picked up eight points from Bailey Preiss. Valerie Stacks, Madysen Hacker, Sadie Stanley and Madison Harbison tallied three apiece in the road defeat.

% Danville 64, Good Hope 57: Despite 23 points and 12 rebounds from Kate Kent, the Lady Raiders dropped a tough one against the Lady Hawks on Monday.

Leyton Seal (15 points), Erika Woodall (11 points, six rebounds and five assists), Abby Neighbors (five points and seven rebonds) and Savanna Derrick (five points) provided strong contributions for coach Amanda Swann’s team as well in the road loss.

% West Morgan 53, Good Hope 36: The Lady Raiders couldn’t get it going offensively, falling to the Lady Rebels at home on Saturday.

Kate Kent (11), Leyton Seal (eight), Erika Woodall (eight), Savanna Derrick (seven) and Abby Neighbors (two) put up the offense for Good Hope in the loss.
