- A post from Facebook Wednesday night.
A Good Hope student is in custody in connection with a Facebook post that led to additional security Thursday at area schools.
Cullman County schools Superintendent Shane Barnette told The Times that the student was taken into custody after 9 a.m. by Cullman County Sheriff’s deputies.
“This person said it was a joke and is very remorseful,” Barnette said. “The Sheriff’s Office will continue its investigation and determine what steps to take. I know there will be consequences from the school board and administration.”
Barnette said there is apparently no link to the Facebook post that named Good Hope schools with the text message seniors received at Vinemont High School, which was an emoji with guns and curse words.
The posts were made Wednesday night, which led to the Sheriff’s Office initiating an investigation and beefing up security at county schools. The Cullman City School system also announced it was taking more precautions because of the incidents directed at county schools.
The name of the student has not been released.
