The Lady Bearcats netted 15 hits and eventually earned an 11-0 victory against Hanceville following a walk-off two-run homer by senior Kennedy Wren in the fifth inning on Tuesday.

Wren finished with three hits and two RBIs, while fellow seniors Hannah McPherson and Gracie Cook secured one hit apiece in the triumph.

All three girls were honored for their contributions to the program following the matchup.

“They really stepped up as leaders, especially with us losing so much off of last year’s team,” first-year coach

Meagan Cagle said. “They all got hits, they all got to play. They’ve really taken charge of the team.”

Alex Stansell (five RBIs), Faith Guest (two RBIs), Savannah Davis (RBI) and Keslynn Grimmett came up with two hits apiece, while Ashlen Heatherly (RBI) and Regan Quattlebaum grabbed one hit apiece. Stansell put a charge into a three-run homer in the first inning to hand the Black and Gold an early lead.

Sydney Holder scattered five hits and six strikeouts to garner the win in the circle.

“We’ve had a lot of eighth-graders have to step up in key positions,” Cagle said of her team. “It’s taken them a little bit of time to get used to the varsity level. Our schedule didn’t do us any favors, either. But for the girls to be able to piece it together and put themselves in a good position to make a run at area, it’s key. This was a building year, but next year will be much better for us I think.”

Cassidy Campbell, Jay Hurst, Destiny Martin, Taylor Short and Raygen Martin collected one hit apiece for the Lady Bulldogs in the tough loss.
