PREP ROUNDUP: Lady Warriors down Good Hope, advance to title tilt; Fairview eliminates Cold Springs, Hanceville

HANCEVILLE — West Point’s softball team is back in familiar territory once again.
The Lady Warriors used a six-run sixth inning to turn a close contest into a 10-5 victory versus Good Hope on Wednesday, punching their ticket to the championship game of the Cullman County Softball Tournament for a fifth straight season.
Trailing 4-3 in the fifth frame, Good Hope loaded the bases with one out. West Point’s Carlie Wilkins, however, recorded back-to-back strikeouts to end the scoring threat.
Olivia Ball then clobbered a grand slam in the top of the sixth inning to give the Lady Warriors some breathing room. Molly Pendley (single) and Hope Shedd (home run) also provided run-scoring hits in the frame.
Ball (four RBIs), Shedd (three RBIs), Pendley (RBI) and Wilkins netted two hits apiece. Makayla Brown drilled a two-run home run in the first inning. Braelee Quinn and Avery McClure each tallied one hit.
Skylar Tucker (three hits), Erika Woodall (two hits and one RBI), Abby Neighbors (two hits and one RBI) and Bailey Swann (two hits) had solid games offensively for the Lady Raiders. One of Woodall’s hits was a home run. Jacqueline Hays (two RBIs), Angelina Flanagan and Abby Hunt collected one hit apiece, while Raven Adams tossed in an RBI.
West Point will await the winner of Good Hope/Fairview (3 p.m.) in the title tilt at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
% Fairview 11, Cold Springs 1: Katie Ball (three hits and five RBIs) produced a walk-off two-run double in the fifth inning to lift the Lady Aggies past the Lady Eagles in Wednesday’s elimination game.
Ball, who also homered and tripled, spearheaded a solid offensive effort for Fairview.
Kaitlyn Benson crafted two hits, while Ally Hogeland (two RBIs), Asia Millwood (two RBIs), Devan Fulmer (RBI) and Abby Duke secured one hit apiece as well.
Hogeland allowed just two hits in five excellent innings of work in the circle.
Stats for Cold Springs were unavailable.
% Fairview 8, Hanceville 5: The Lady Aggies bested the Lady Bulldogs in Wednesday’s elimination game.
Kaitlyn Benson collected three hits, while Katie Ball added two hits of her own.
Rebekah DeBlanc (two RBIs), Devan Fulmer (RBI), Ally Hogeland (RBI), Abby Duke and Asia Millwood tallied one hit apiece for Fairview.
Jay Hurst (three hits and three RBIs), Alexia Edwards (two hits), Cassidy Campbell (two hits) and Taylor Short (one hit and one RBI) were the top contributors for Hanceville in the tough loss.

% Fairview 13, West Point 8: The Aggies outlasted the Warriors for a pivotal area victory on Tuesday.
Fairview was paced by Garrett Dunn (four hits and one RBI) and Bryson Fletcher (three hits and one RBI) at the plate. Malcolm Parker (two hits and two RBIs), Riley Carroll (one hit and three RBIs), Dayne Black (one hit and three RBIs), Scoot Bennett (one hit and one RBI), Truman Boyd (hit) and Dalton Payne (RBI) all delivered key contributions as well in the home win.
Sam Briehn (two RBIs), Rylan Jones (RBI), Hunter Persall (RBI), Kolton Easterwood and Levi Allred corralled two hits each for West Point. Cameron Bates (one hit and one RBI) and Blake Diestelow (hit) also contributed.
% Hanceville 11, Vinemont 10: The Bulldogs squeaked past the Eagles in the second game of Tuesday’s area doubleheader.
Ashton James (four RBIs) and Isaac Holmes tallied two hits apiece for Hanceville, while Zach Campbell (two RBIs), Alex Campbell (two RBIs), Dalton Rice (RBI), Kainen Cruce and Matthew Cornelius all crafted one hit apiece as well. Tate Brown added an RBI.
Deacon Samples (RBI), Hudson Wood and Derrick Ransom amassed two hits apiece for Vinemont in the loss. Wyatt Thomason (four RBIs), C.J. O’Neil (two RBIs), Clay Rogers (RBI), Isaac Smith (RBI) and Travis Hopper rounded out the offensive production with one hit apiece.

% St. Bernard 10, New Hope 0: The Saints breezed to a home victory earlier this week.
Michael Bain Clemmons led St. Bernard with two goals and two assists. Carson Holmes and Jose Zataran also provided two goals apiece. Alec Von Thulen (one goal and one assist), John Christian Rose (one goal), Gary Contreras (one goal) and Daniel Bamberry (one goal) also provided superb production. Anthony Diaz recorded his second straight shutout as well.
Prep Track and Field
St. Bernard’s girls claimed the team title at Tuesday’s Corner Invitational.
The Lady Saints edged Oneonta by 10 points to finish atop the 19-school field. Addison came in eighth.
St. Bernard’s boys placed fourth overall. The Bulldogs, meanwhile, were 14th.
