- St. Bernard's Gracie Loyd.
Gracie Loyd put together a pair of remarkable performances this past week.
The impressive junior standout finished first in the 100-meter dash (13.35), first in the 200-meter dash (27.97), first in the long jump (15-3.5) and second in the triple jump (32-1.5) to lift St. Bernard’s girls to a close triumph over Cold Springs for the coveted team title at the April Fools Invitational.
Under the weather, she also nabbed second (long jump), fourth (200-meter dash) and seventh (triple jump) at the Corner Invitational to help guide the Lady Saints to yet another team crown.
Along the way, she set personal bests in the long jump and the 200-meter dash.
Take all that into account, and Loyd is The Times’ Athlete of the Week.
St. Bernard also received strong contributions from other athletes.
Leahrose Mami secured first-place showings in the 1,600-meter run (5:32.59) and 3,200-meter run (12:15.04) at the April Fools Invitational in addition to helping out the 4×400-meter relay (4:57.56) and 4×800-meter relay (11:24.67) teams — both of which notched first-place efforts.
Mami racked up first-place finishes in the 800-meter run (2:35.06), 1,600-meter run (5:49.37) and 3,200-meter run (11:24.67) at the Corner Invitational as well. She also aided the 4×800-meter relay team in a second-place effort.
Andrew Sweeney, meanwhile, collected first in the 3,200-meter run (10:30.74) and second in the 1,600-meter run at the April Fools Invitational.
He snagged first-place outings in the 800-meter run (2:07.01), 1,600-meter run (4:41.01) and 3,200-meter run (11:02.67) at the Corner Invitational, too, and spearheaded a wonderful performance in the 4×800-meter relay (9:00.07) for another yet first-place showing.
