This year’s state field is officially set.
And there’s no shortage of momentum for the area athletes and schools involved.
Addison (girls), Addison (boys) and Cold Springs (girls) won team crowns at their respective sectional track and field meets over the weekend, while numerous individuals also crafted spots at this week’s state meets in Cullman and Gulf Shores.
The top-five individuals and relays meeting qualifying standards from each section collected automatic bids, while several local programs also compiled a handful of wild-card representatives.
Class 1A-3A squads — Addison, Cold Springs, Hanceville, Holly Pond, St. Bernard and Vinemont — head to Cullman this Friday and Saturday, while 4A-7A teams — Cullman, Fairview, Good Hope and West Point — travel to Gulf Shores for a three-day competition beginning on Thursday.
Cold Springs’ boys won the 2A title, their second in a row, last season.
