Paving on the northbound inside lane of Interstate 65 in Cullman County is expected to begin Tuesday.

The paving is part of a rehabilitation project by the Alabama Department of Transportation along a stretch of the interstate from south of Exit 305 to the Blount County line.

“They lost a week between rain and Rock the South last week, but the contractor is about finished with the ramps this week and is looking to begin paving the mainline, starting with the northbound inside lane, on Tuesday night or Wednesday night if weather permits,” said Seth Burkett, north region public information officer for ALDOT.

Once the paving begins, motorists can expect delays because of the single-lane closures between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m., Sunday nights through Thursday nights, continuing for several weeks, Burkett said.

The contractor is bringing in an additional crew to simultaneously pave the rest areas. The northbound rest area will be closed Monday morning thorough Friday afternoon. It will reopen for the weekend, he added.
