The Cullman Downtown Merchants Association is bringing a 40-foot ferris wheel to the parking lot across from Moe’s Original Bar B Que and Berkeley Bob’s. Rides will be available, beginning about 4 p.m., for donations to the Fancher Education’s nonprofit Literacy & Learn program.

“This is a great opportunity to help out a good program in the community while exploring some of the great stores and restaurants we have in downtown Cullman,” said Michael Sapp, president of the Downtown Merchants.

For additional entertainment, the Downtown Merchants have booked Micowave Dave & The Nukes to perform from 5-9 p.m. on-stage near the ferris wheel.

Microwave Dave & The Nukes have performed for 20 years, releasing six albums. The band has carried its blues sound across Alabama, the United States and Europe, developing a large following on two continents.

“We’re excited to have the band in Cullman to help celebrate downtown and the fundraiser that the merchants are behind,” Sapp said. “We invite everyone to come enjoy the entertainment and visit our stores. We’re anticipating a great crowd and a great time.”

The event will continue until 9 p.m.
