Cullman man arrested, one sought in shoplifting case

A Cullman County man was arrested this week on first degree robbery charges after allegedly shoplifting items from the Gardendale Wal-Mart.

Lt. Chuck Denham said Jason Matthew Owens of Cullman was recently picked up by county authorities in connection with the incident. Jason Owens and Kevin Michael Owens, 34, of Cullman, allegedly shoplifted $24 worth of household items from the store on June 2.

Denham said when Wal-Mart security personnel tried to stop the two men, one of them reportedly took a knife out of his pocket and tried to use it against an employee. The two men escaped but were identified through surveillance video.
