Cold Springs swept the small-school crowns at Saturday’s TCBY Invitational in Tuscaloosa.
Seth Walker (fourth), Jonathan Collett (sixth), Cole Akridge (eighth), Will Grimmett (11th) and Aaron Spurger (13th) all finished in the top 15 for the Eagles, who bested runner-up Altamont by one point (42-43) in the Class 1A-4A field.
The Lady Eagles, meanwhile, squeaked past American Christian Academy and Saint James (52-55) behind excellent performances from Reagan Parris (fifth), Alyssa Jackson (seventh), Ashleigh White (eighth), Sadie Terry (14th) and Ciara Calvert (19th).
“It is always nice to win, but it is a little too close for comfort,” Cold Springs coach Blaise Carie said. “It is a good start, but we still have a lot of work to do. Everyone did a great job.”
Cullman’s boys and girls, meanwhile, both finished second to Hoover in the Class 5A-7A division.
Will Thompson (second), Edgar Medina (fifth), Adam Mangum (10th), Nicholas Wood (17th), and Walker Huddleston (33rd) delivered the top times for the Black and Gold boys, while Ivy Edge (fifth), Jennifer Aviles (seventh), Bernarda Tizapa (eighth), Della Kelly (10th) and Tess Heaton (16th) were the fastest runners for the Lady Bearcats.
