Pediatric care at Cullman Regional has received a big boost for many years through the talent and stage performances of children.
The next performance of the Bounds Memorial For Kids’ Sake Variety Show is set Feb. 10 at 4 p.m. at the Betty Leeth Haynes Theatre at Wallace State Community College. But before reaching the stage, children are invited to audition for the performance Nov. 13 and 15.
Sponsored by the Cullman Regional Foundation, the auditions will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Colonel Cullmann Room of Professional Office Building II on the Cullman Regional campus.
The program is open to students from the Cullman community who would like to showcase their talent ranging from vocalist, instrumentalist, drama, gymnastics, dance or ensembles and group performances.
“The good news is this benefits the nursery and pediatric care services at Cullman Regional,” Foundation Director Maria Stanford said. “In 1993, Dr. Eugene Bownes realized many of his patients had musical and theatrical talents and felt their enthusiam should be shared with the community. It also gives children a chance to help other children through their performances and fund raising efforts.”
Dr. Bounds died in 1997. The Foundation board of directors voted to name the performance the Bounds Memorial For Kids’ Sake Variety Show, she added.
The audition guidelines for youth include eligibility requirements for children ages 4 to 19. The length of the audition should be around two minutes with a maximum of three minutes. Registration is a $30 donation for individuals and a $60 donation for groups of two or more, paid at time of audition.
Students should bring a queued CD for the auditions and be ready to perform an entertaining piece.
The show has raised more than $100,000 since Dr. Bownes initiated.
“This has been a wonderful program in the community for many years. It’s great fund and rewarding for everyone involved,” Stanford said.
The Foundation raises money throughout the year for various projects to benefit the hospital and patients who used the facility for health care needs.
