ADDISON — Aliceville eliminated Addison from the Class 2A quarterfinals behind a stellar rushing attack in a 38-22 victory at A.G. Hicks Stadium.
The Yellow Jackets (11-2) scored three fourth-quarter touchdowns to finally put the Bulldogs (10-3) away.
Aliceville plays at undefeated No. 1 Fyffe next week.
Addison scored first on Friday night with Zayne Guthrie rushing for a 9-yard touchdown. The 2-point conversion gave the Bulldogs an 8-0 lead.
Aliceville controlled the rest of the first half.
On the first play of the next drive, Aliceville’s Zavien Wilkins went 61 yards for a touchdown, making the score 8-6.
Aliceville grabbed the lead for good midway through the second quarter when quarterback Kavon McGraw put the Yellow Jackets on top 12-6 with a 44-yard touchdown run. A pass interference call on the final play of the second quarter gave the Yellow Jackets an untimed down. McGraw made the most of the opportunity with a 7-yard touchdown pass to Devontae Wright to make it 18-8 Yellow Jackets at the half.
Addison got as close as four points at 18-14 in the third quarter following a 3-yard touchdown pass from Guthrie to Caleb Crider, but Aliceville pulled away from there.
McGraw’s 2-yard touchdown run pushed the lead to 26-14, and an Addison fumble led to a touchdown run, making the score 32-14 later in the fourth.
The Bulldogs got within 10 points at 32-22 when Guthrie threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Brett Smith with 3:51 left.
Aliceville added the final score to seal the game with 2:44 remaining.
