Georgia man arrested following four-hour search

Gardendale Police today announced that David William Hughes, 29, of Alpharetta, Georgia, was the suspect arrested in the incident late Friday afternoon at U.S. AmeriBank on Fieldstown Road.
According to police, they were alerted when Hughes attempted to cash a forged check at the bank. Once police arrived, Hughes allegedly went into the bathroom and climbed into the ceiling. Hughes then elude officers from Gardendale and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office for approximately four hours before they located him inside the ceiling of the building. Hughes was treated for minor scrapes at UAB and transported to the Jefferson County Jail.
Hughes is charged with possession of a forged instrument 3rd, criminal mischief 1st, resisting arrest, attempting to elude. Those charges carry a bond totaling $8,100. Hughes was also wanted in Georgia on a fugitive from justice charge related to a failure to appear on an armed robbery charge. That warrant also comes with a no bond order.
