The City of Cullman has cut its expenses by 7.5 percent from October through December as sales tax revenue grew just slightly by a half-percent.
Council Pro Tem Jenny Folsom delivered the first financial quarter of fiscal 2017 Monday during the Cullman City Council meeting, commending Mayor Woody Jacobs on the drop in expenses.
“Department heads,” he responded.
Folsom said department heads have down a great job of keeping costs down. And while sales tax revenue for the three months were just barely up over the same time in 2016, there was another positive note in the report.
“Business licenses and building permits were up too, and that’s a good sign that people are building and things are happening in Cullman,” Folsom said.
Cullman received $1,046,775.30 in October sales tax (compared to $1,064,228.43 in 2015), $1,080,364.94 in November ($1,071,763.50 in 2015) and $1,313,007.05 in December ($1,260,958.46 in 2015), according to Cullman County Sales Tax Office numbers.
