Officers chase suspect
A Gardendale man reportedly led police officers from Gardendale and state troopers on a chase early Monday morning.
Officers began to pursue Dallas Perkins, 20, of Gardendale, after Perkins allegedly was seen spinning his tires on Fieldstown Road near the police station shortly before 6:30 a.m. When officers attempted to get behind Perkins and stop him, he allegedly fled the scene.
Gardendale officers, joined by state troopers continued to chase Perkins north on Interstate 65. Perkins was reportedly driving a Jeep Wrangler. Perkins allegedly passed several vehicles in the emergency lane and weaved in and out of traffic during the pursuit.
At mile marker 296, troopers put down a spike strip, flattening all four of Perkins’ tires. He reportedly continued to drive three miles before coming to a stop in a median.
Gardendale Police Chief Mike Walker said Perkins was arrested on charges of driving under the influence and reckless endangerment. He said other traffic citations may be issued to Perkins.
