Local students, teachers honored at Chamber’s State of Our Communities

- Clockwise, the Teacher of the Year awards were handed out to the following: Welti Elementary School’s Jennifer Wright (elementary), Good Hope High School’s Jena Mayo (secondary), Cullman High School’s Elizabeth Pylant (secondary) and Cullman City Primary School’s Erica Rutherford (elementary).
Two Cullman County students won 2017 Student of the Year awards Friday during the Cullman Area Chamber of Commerce’s State of Our Communities luncheon.
Two Cullman City Schools teachers and two Cullman County Schools teachers also won Teacher of the Year awards during the “State of Education” portion of the daylong event at the Cullman Civic Center.
Dawson Foust from Holly Pond High School was named Student of the Year and Miguel Perales from Vinemont High School and the Cullman Area Technology Academy won the Career Technical Student of the year.
The two were selected from 12 highly accomplished students each representing their local high school. Faust and Perales each received $500 scholarship from the Wallace State Community College Future Foundation.
