The strong storm system that blew through Cullman County late Saturday resulted in no reported injuries, despite downing some trees and power lines in communities west and north of Cullman.

“We have had reports of power lines and trees down in the Jones Chapel area,” said Cullman EMA Director Phyllis Little, once the brunt of the system had moved through.

“We’ve also had similar reports in the Blair and Battleground areas, and in the West Point area. We did get a report from the Blair community that, on County Road 1055, there were some unoccupied vehicles that had been turned over.”

Little said it’s too early to determine whether that or any other local damage had resulted from a possible tornado or from straight-line winds, adding that investigators with the National Weather Service will likely visit the area early this week to conduct a damage assessment.

“We’ve had some damage, but this is supposed to move through tonight,” she said Saturday evening. “Tomorrow should be a better day.”
