Information kiosks coming to courthouse

With the help of the Cullman County Bar Association, kiosks are coming to the Cullman County Courthouse to help visitors find their way.
A project two years in the making is near fruition with the Cullman County Commission Tuesday signing off on the construction and installation of two information kiosks in the lobby. The county approved $13,010.50 to pay for the work by SCS Worx.
The local bar has donated $5,000 toward the project, a joint effort between local attorneys, county commission and probate and circuit clerk’s offices, said Bar President Perry Knight. The idea is to provide visitors with information on where to go to court, pay fines and conduct other business.
On Tuesday, the Cullman County Commission:
Approved the minutes of the March 28 meeting, appropriations, expenditures, payroll, requisitions and all journal entries to be posted.
Approved the minutes of the April 5 emergency-called meeting.
Recognized the Fairview High School economics and government class that visited the commission today to learn about county government.
Announced Cullman County/City Clean-up Day will be 8 a.m.-noon April 22.
Terminated Local Emergency Declaration on April 5.
Proclaimed April as Fair Housing Month.
Authorized County Attorney Chad Floyd to attend a mediation in the matter of Gossett v. Cullman County Water Department on
Authorized Chairman Kenneth Walker to sign the procurement procedures for Federal Transit Administration Programs for CARTS.
Authorized Walker to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Cullman Child Advocacy Center (”Brooks Place”) for provision of the Juvenile Accountability Weekend Services (JAWS). Probation officers conduct weekend curfew and home environment checks and conduct drug screenings on juveniles under their supervision.
Authorized Walker to sign a hold harmless agreement/donation acknowledgment and release with Wal-Mart Stores for the donation of motor oil for the county garage.
Approved $3,000 request from the Festhalle Market Committee for seasonal operations for the 2017 market season.
Approved the purchase of two vehicles off the state bid list through Tallassee Automotive, inc. for the Water Department: 2017 Dodge 4500 Series 1 ton with manual crank tarp system ($55,451.00) and 2017 Dodge 4500 Series 1 ton with upper and lower tool box ($57,460.00). Commissioners said they investigated purchasing the trucks locally but the state bid list had the lower price.
Approved maintenance contract with Bagby Elevator Company, Inc. for maintenance service for the following elevators for the annual cost of $13,104: two elevators and one dumbwaiter at the courthouse, one elevator at the county board of education, one at county correctional facility and one at economic development/sales tax office.
Extended bid for one year for concrete to Ready Mix USA.
The Cullman County Commission will hold a work session 8:30 a.m., April 25, followed by its meeting at 10 a.m.
