A Hanceville woman captured on video stomping out a windshield in a Cullman parking lot told a Birmingham news station she prayed before the outburst but “did it anyway.

Barbara Emily Lowery, 24, was charged with disorderly conduct Monday after she allegedly kicked the glass windshield out of a man’s Volvo parked lot of Badcock Furniture on Cherokee Avenue Southwest. Badcock Furniture issued a trespass warning against Lowery to prevent her from returning to the property and criminal mischief charges may be pending.

“I prayed about it first, and I slept on it, and I decided it wasn’t a good idea. Then I saw a shovel,” the Birmingham station ABC 33/40 reported Lowery saying during a phone interview.

Video evidence shows a shovel beside the vehicle with which Lowery used to beat the car, authorities reportedly told the new station. Lowery said the shovel was not “doing the job,” so she climbed on top to stomp out the windshield.

“I already knew going into it that I would have to face some consequences, and you know it kind of sucks, but like I said I prayed about it and stuff, and I did it anyway,” Lowery said.

Her motivation remains unclear.

A business owner who shot the video has stepped forward to purchase the car’s owner, Nick Myrick, a new windshield.

“I was actually holding a baby in Subway and saw this woman swinging a shovel and then she went to stomping on it and screaming and hollering,” said Scott Sams, owner of Freedom Motors in Hanceville. “That’s when I went out and started shooting the video. I didn’t know what else she might do.”

Myrick told The Times the car was originally his grandfather’s and then his father’s, who passed away last July.

“My grand dad passed away just a few weeks ago. The car means a lot to me,” Myrick said. “That’s really cool what Mr. Sams is doing to replace the windshield.”
