PREP ROUNDUP: Cullman soccer downs Florence 2-0 to advance to quarterfinals

Class 6A No. 6 Cullman picked up two goals from Miguel Tizapa en route to a 2-0 home victory over Florence in Tuesday’s second-round playoff matchup.
Washington Sheffield and Cole Gerding assisted their teammate, while Jaron Potter manned the net with 10 saves.
Cullman is now 14-6-2 on the season and will play against Albertville or Decatur in the quarterfinals later in the week.
% Cullman 4, Fort Payne 3 (OT): Miguel Tizapa tallied a goal with 38 seconds left in the first overtime to lift the No. 6 Bearcats to a road victory over the No. 2 Wildcats during Saturday’s first-round playoff matchup.
Tizapa finished with two goals, while Washington Sheffield and Isaac Rodriguez corralled one each. Tizapa, Rodriguez and Cole Gerding recorded assists as well for the Black and Gold.
% West Morgan 11, St. Bernard 1 (Boys): The Saints were eliminated in the first round of the 1A-3A playoffs on Tuesday.
% West Morgan 5, St. Bernard 0: (Girls): The Lady Saints were eliminated in the first round of the 1A-3A playoffs on Tuesday.

Class 1A, Area 12 Tournament
Addison finished in second place following a loss to top-seeded Marion County on Tuesday. The Bulldogs qualified for the North-Central Regional Tournament in Tuscaloosa, which takes place May 11-13.
Class 2A, Area 13 Tournament
% Cold Springs 10, Falkville 3: The Lady Eagles tallied an area tournament crown following a decisive win over the Lady Blue Devils on Tuesday night.
Drew Sanders (two hits and four RBIs), Anna Kate Voce (one hit and two RBIs), Madison Holmes (two hits) and Hayden Goodwin (one hit and RBI) all had solid at-bats for Cold Springs, which improved to 20-12-1 overall and advanced to the North Regional Tournament, which is set for May 11-13 in Huntsville.
% Cold Springs 5, Falkville 4: Drew Sanders (two hits and one RBI), Anna Kate Voce (one hit and one RBI), Crimson Gann (one hit and one RBI) and Kylon Hamby (one hit and one RBI) each contributed for the Blue and Gold in their opening-round win.
Madison Holmes and Hayden Goodwin also had base hits, while Sanders struck out five and allowed just four hits in the circle.
Class 3A, Area 12 Tournament
Hanceville and Vinemont saw their seasons come to an end on Tuesday.
The Lady Bulldogs lost to Oakman 10-0 and eliminated the Lady Eagles 17-2 before eventually dropping a 6-0 bout to Carbon Hill, which defeated Vinemont 10-0 to open the tournament.

Class 6A, Area 14 Tournament
% Cullman 9, Fort Payne 5: The Lady Bearcats punched their ticket to the North Regional Tournament following Tuesday’s home win.
Hannah Morton (one hit and three RBIs) and Sierra Easterwood (two hits and two RBIs) each produced homers, while Kennedy Wren (one RBI), Meredith McPherson and Olivia Schwaiger all had two hits apiece. McKensi Burks (one hit and one RBI), Tiffani Schwaiger (one RBI) and Bailey Swann (one hit) also contributed.
Cullman will try to close out its second straight area tournament title on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
% Cullman 10, Brewer 0 (six innings): Hannah Morton (four hits and four RBIs) and Bailey Swann (three hits and one RBI) both nabbed home runs to hand the Lady Bearcats an opening-round victory against the Lady Patriots.
Kennedy Wren pitched in two hits and one RBI, while Meredith McPherson, Olivia Schwaiger and McKensi Burks each scored one hit and one RBI. Tiffani Schwaiger rounded out the offense with one base knock.
Sydney Holder delivered a gem in the circle, allowing just five hits and striking out two batters for the win.

Class 4A, Section 2
Good Hope’s Cole Pearson fired an even-par 71 at Musgrove Country Club on Tuesday to nab low-medalist honors and lead the Raiders to a spot in the sub-state tournament at Montgomery’s Arrowhead Country Club on Monday, May 8.

Class 4A/5A, Section 3
Fairview’s girls finished second at Limestone Springs in Oneonta on Tuesday to wrap up a spot in the sub-state tournament, which is set for Monday, May 8 at Goose Pond Colony.
Maci Yeager (90), Emmy Leigh Glover (97) and Brileigh Roberts (102) were the top golfers for the Lady Aggies.
Class 5A, Section 3
On Monday, Fairview’s boys placed third at Chesley Oaks to advance to the sub-state round, which will be held Monday, May 8 at Goose Pond Colony in Scottsboro.
Josh Barnes (79), Hunter McKelvy (80), Hunter Yeager (90) and Jacob Allen (97) had the fine rounds for the Aggies, who finished behind Etowah and Hayden in blustery conditions.
In other local action, Holly Pond’s Dawson Foust earned a place in his sub-state tournament following a round of 86 at Point Mallard Golf Course in Decatur. Foust will head out to Silver Lakes in Glencoe on Monday, May 8.
