Area educators who want to breakout of the rut and get some new ideas for their classrooms will want to take part in a professional development workshop offered this month by the Wallace State Community College Alumni Association. The 2017 Educator Alumni Connection will be held June 28, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the James C. Bailey building on the Hanceville campus.

The workshop is good for 6.5 hours of professional development activities. The fee is $15 to WSCC Alumni members, $20 for non members, and includes lunch.

“Can You Breakout?” will introduce educators to educational versions of the popular trend of escape rooms. The lessons will be easily adaptable for educators teaching kindergarten through college levels.

Aimee Bates, Technology Specialist for Cullman City Schools, and Susan Boyd, Library Media Specialist, will show educators how to create subject/content-related tasks and clues in order to solve riddles or complete tasks to unlock physical or digital locks and “breakout” of the class. Bates will also demonstrate a digital breakout and show participants how to access free resources to use this technique in their classes.
