Cullman County residents who need assistance in paying for prescription drugs may be eligible for help from the Cullman County Commission on Aging through the SeniorRx program.
Those eligible can include people who are 55 or older with a chronic condition and no prescription drug insurance, people who are in the Medicare Part D coverage gap or people of any age who have been deemed disabled and are in the 48-month Medicare waiting period.
Dusty Baker, director of the Commission on Aging, said the Commission is able to work with pharmaceutical companies to get those drugs for free or at a reduced cost, and can pass those savings on to qualifying residents.
Baker said the assistance program allowed county residents to save $820,000 in prescription drug costs last year.
He said people who qualify for assistance can go to the Commission on Aging’s office with a list of needed prescriptions and can sit down with a SeniorRx coordinator to fill out an application.
For the full qualifications required, and for more information about the program, contact the Cullman County Commission on Aging at 256-734-1241 or at their office at 1539 Sportsman Lake Road NW in Cullman.
