Help sought in theft of boat trailer

Cullman County Sheriff’s investigators are seeking the public’s help in developing information regarding Monday’s theft of a $15,000 boat trailer from the parking lot of a business in downtown Dodge City in broad daylight.
Security cameras at the Dodge City Citgo on County Road 490 filmed the theft of the aluminum triple-axle trailer around 11:50 a.m. Monday.
Lt. Tim Creel, the Sheriff’s Office’s west side district chief, says the footage clearly shows a red/maroon-colored Dodge truck move the trailer earlier in the day on Monday. Then, just after 11:30 a.m., a black and silver Chevy S-10 pickup is shown hooking up to the trailer and driving away.
“The security film shows unknown people driving a red or maroon late 1970s Dodge pickup. The pickup hooks up to the trailer and moves it to an area of the parking lot. Later, you can see in the footage a white female with blonde hair driving the black 1980s model Blazer that hooks up to the trailer and drives away with it.”
Creel said a BOLO (Be On the Lookout) was issued shortly following the theft.
“Officers were positioned throughout the area, but no truck and trailer were seen. We also sent the helicopter up to look for it, but they weren’t able to find anything, which leads me to suspect they didn’t go very far,” Creel said. “We’ve notified area recycling centers and anyone else who deals in scrap metals should be alerted to watch for the trailer in case the thieves are looking to salvage it for some quick cash.”
Creel said there is a possibility the theft could be related to some other scrap metal thefts in the area in recent weeks.
“However, that’s only speculation at this time,” Creel said.
Anyone with information about the whereabouts of the trailer or the person or persons responsible for taking it are asked to contact Lt. Creel at the sheriff’s office’s west division office at 739-0059 or call the sheriff’s office at 734-0342.
