Cullman police charged a Hoover man with arson, alleging he set his parents’ home on fire in 2015.

Kenneth W. Smith, Jr., 41, was charged with first-degree arson Thursday for the blaze and booked into the Cullman County Detention Center. He was released on $30,000 bail.

Cullman police Investigator Jody Martin said Smith turned himself in on the outstanding warrant after negotiations through his attorney.

“Alcohol may have had a role in the fire,” Martin said.

No one was injured in the fire. Cullman Fire Rescue and the Alabama State Fire Marshal’s Office investigated, and their findings were turned over to the Cullman County District Attorney’s Office to review.
