This past weekend was full of exciting things to do around our area.

Saturday morning my sister, my mom and I all went to the arts and crafts show at the Gardendale Civic Center. I just loved all of the booths that were in attendance. There were plenty of cute things to choose from, including jewelry, dresses, socks, plants, food, gadgets and even a spray for the toilet to keep the odor down.

That was one of the funniest inventions that I had heard of in a while.

I even won a “mother-in-law tongue” plant from a draw prize. After spending too much money on dresses and bows for Raygan, I finally departed with $2 left in my pocket. I ran to my grandparents’ house for a quick drop-in and then ate a free lunch at my mom’s house. At about 2 p.m. it was time to start working again.

I help with my parent’s ministry, “Ain’t God Good!”. So, I helped load water and tables and coolers to take to the wild game feast at Mt. Olive First Baptist Church.

We passed out water last year, but I had to leave before the eating began, so I was excited to get to stay for the whole ordeal this year.

We got there at 3 p.m. in time to set up for the car show. It was pretty neat, but everyone was talking about the food. By 5 p.m. I could have eaten a whole pig I was so hungry. We made our way to the line and had a ton of food to choose from.

There were frog legs, quail, venison, hog wings, ribs, gumbo, stew and chili. We ate until our tummies were about to explode. It was fun to watch the little ones eating frog legs and then grossing out when we told them what they were eating.

After this good, hearty meal, we all went to the sanctuary to listen to some singing and the speaker, Mark Whitlock, owner of Mark’s Outdoors. He did a wonderful job of telling his testimony of how the Lord had healed his daughter. After speaking, he asked if anyone had any hunting or fishing questions. There were only about two questions because everyone was ready for the prizes to be handed out.

Mark started with the kids. Can you believe that this nice man gave each child their own rod and reel? He even had little Disney princess rods and reels for the little girls. Raygan was overjoyed, although she didn’t know what to do with it. After all of the kids got their prizes, it was time for the big dogs.

If you have ever seen Mark hand out door prizes, it was no surprise when he started throwing balls and giveaways all over the auditorium.

He then started drawing names, and wouldn’t you know it, I got my name drawn again. I was so excited. I couldn’t choose between the oil change and the Zebco rod and reel. The nice man handing out the prizes told me just to take them both, so I did.

Todd and I left from that wild game feast with three rods and reels and a free oil change. Now that was a perfect ending to such an eventful day.
