Gardendale junior Katie Argent threw her first no-hitter Tuesday night as the Lady Rockets blanked Pinson Valley, 10-0.

Argent walked only one and faced the minimum of 15 batters over her five-inning no-hitter. Argent struck out four, but mostly she kept the Lady Indian hitters off balance by painting the inside corner of the plate.

“I was working inside with my fastball,” Argent said. “Most of the outs were on pop ups or grounders back to me. I tried to work my curveball in tonight, but it wasn’t working, so I stayed with only my fastball most of the way.”

Argent was so focused on each half inning, that she didn’t realize she had thrown a no-hit game until after the game ended.

“Coach (Brad) Myrick told me I had thrown a no-hitter right after the game,” she said. “I was pretty surprised. I didn’t know I had done it. I thought I was pitching well and had only walked one batter, but I didn’t know hadn’t allowed a hit.”

Argent, who also plays travel ball, had never thrown a no-hitter at any level until Tuesday night.
