Police searching for bank robbery suspect

UPDATED: Gardendale Lt. Scott Banks said the suspect was a white male in his 50s or 60s. He had a salt and pepper beard and glasses and was wearing a black pullover and black University of Alabama cap. He fled south on Highway 31 in a white pickup truck. Anyone with information is asked to call the Gardendale Police Department at 631-8787.

The SouthPoint Bank on Highway 31 in Gardendale was robbed this afternoon by an older gentleman. Police spokesman Lt. Scott Banks said the man entered the bank shortly before 3 p.m. and asked for money. Banks said the robber did not produce a weapon and no one was injured in the incident. Banks said police were still on the scene, obtaining descriptions from bank employees and reviewing surveillance tapes. He said a description would be released as soon as it was available.
