Cullman man faces burglary charges after break-in at Tobacco Country

A Cullman man has been charged with burglary after two break-ins at the Tobacco Country store on U.S. 278 West.

David Eric Sanders, 28, was identified as a suspect after Cullman Police Department investigators reviewed surveillance footage from the incidents. He is charged with two counts of burglary in the case.

The first incident occurred just after 11 p.m. Monday when police received an alarm call at the business. Officers found the side door had been smashed open with a rock or brick, according to the police report.

The business owner had the door repaired but when he returned between 7:30 a.m. and 8 a.m. the next morning the front glass door had been broken.

Investigator Chris Thomason and Justin Craft, Lt. Jody Martin, Lt. Jeff Warnke and Officer Trey Higginbotham went to  Sanders’ residence on Hickory Avenue nearby and discovered items stolen from the store and arrested the suspect.

Sanders was taken to the Cullman County Detention Center where his bond was set at $10,000.
