SUMITON — It’s only two games into the new season, but so far Corner seems to have its opposition, well, cornered.

The Yellow Jackets got their second blowout victory in as many nights, manhandling a young Sumiton Christian squad by a final score of 83-30 Friday night.

The outcome was never in doubt, as Corner reeled off the first 10 points of the game and had 25 up on the scoreboard before the Eagles mustered their second basket. By halftime, the Jackets had amassed a 41-10 advantage.

The lopsided contest saw coach Billy Conner give his reserves plenty of playing time, and nearly all took advantage. All 12 players saw time, with all but one of them scoring.

Conner swapped his startes and subs out at roughly the midway point of each quarter.

Damon Knox led the way for the Jackets (2-0) with 16 points and seven rebounds. Jake Eiland scored 13 and also grabbed seven rebounds. Cody Foster had seven boards togo along with his seven points.

Eiland also accounted for three of Corner’s nine blocks. Adam Norris gave out five assists, and Seth Hand had four steals to go with his nine points.

Sumiton Christian also played its entire lineup, with Blake Monasco leading the way with eight points.

Friday’s rout followed a similar thumping of Hanceville. So far, Corner has outscored its opponents 143-55 in those two contests.

The Yellow Jackets play their first home game of the season Tuesday night, as they host Cleveland. Tipoff follows the conclusion of the girls’ game, at approximately 7:30 p.m.

The first area game of the season takes place Friday night, as Corner travels to Oak Grove to take on the Tigers.
