The Cullman High School Marching Band performed in front of 400,000 spectators and 93 millions viewers nationwide during the 75th annual McDonald’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in Chicago, Ill.
Band members departed Monday night, Nov. 23, for the Windy City. Students had a couple of days of sightseeing and adventure before the parade.
“It’s was an adventure packed trip,” said Christopher Smith, CHS Band Director. “We got to visit the Museum of Science and Industry. Students descended into a coal mine, explored the U-505 captured submarine, visited the Henry Crown Space Center, and climb aboard a Navy ship.”
Students attended the Broadway Musical “Wicked” at the Ford Center for the Performing Arts, Oriental Theatre. They visited the Skydeck on the 103rd floor of the Sears Tower, as well as the Navy pier — Chicago’s famous landmark on Lake Michigan. Students were also be treated to a dinner and dance with the other high school bands performing in the parade.
“We hope everyone in Cullman got to watch, and feel the pride of the Cullman High School Marching Band,” Smith said.
Students sold band cards to help offset the cost of their trip.
“We are thankful to our students, band boosters, and the businesses who participate in our band card promotion. Their support gives band students the opportunity to do things which might otherwise be impossible.”
