HANCEVILLE — The fourth time was the charm for Hartselle’s girls against area-rival Austin.

Hartselle (27-6), which had been 0-3 versus Austin this season, is bound for Birmingham for the first time since 2007. It’ll face undefeated and No. 2 LeFlore next Tuesday at 9 a.m. for a spot in the 6A state championship game.
Tourney MVP Lindsay Berry had the go-ahead basket inside the final minute, and freshman Moriah Taylor stretched the Tigers’ lead to three with a perfect trip to the free throw line with 18 seconds left. A Hartselle miss on the front-end of a one-and-one with four seconds to go gave Austin one last gasp, but it never got a shot off.
Berry and Taylor shared the Tigers’ team-high with 12 points apiece. Kayla Key chipped in eight points and five assists, while Anna Mathis and Jordan Finn both had six points. Finn added 11 rebounds and four steals, and Berry had eight boards.
Lauren Fitch led the Black Bears (24-11) with 23 points, where her total stood for the last 12 minutes. Katie Speegle rounded out a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Auburn signee Tyra Johnson closed out her high school career with nine points.
Berry spearheaded an All-Tournament Team that included Taylor, Mathis, Speegle, Johnson, Fitch and Athens’ Alexis Woods.

Muscle Shoals 65, Lee-Huntsville 59
Not many in Hanceville or across the state saw the Trojans’ upset of the top-ranked Generals coming.
But they sure did have a ball watching it play out live and on social media.
Muscle Shoals led 42-25 at halftime and survived a late scare to clinch the program’s first regional title and state appearance since 1994. Lee-Huntsville cut it to 61-59 in the final 30 seconds, only for Braxton Wiley to wrap up the win — and MVP honors — with four unanswered free throws.
The Trojans (20-10), who had buzzer-beaters at the end of the first two quarters and nailed a trey just seconds before the end of the third, will meet No. 2 Carver-Montgomery in the state semis next Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.
Muscle Shoals shot 48 percent (19 of 40) from the field and 53 percent (10 of 19) from behind the arc. The Generals, meanwhile, were just 1 of 16 from deep.
Calvin Bak paced a group of five Trojans in double figures with 15 points. Riley Wolgamott was next in line with 14 points, followed by Jackson Wolgamott (12), Winston (11) and Mark Sears (10). Wolgamott was also good for 12 rebounds and five assists.
Lee-Huntsville (26-7), which beat Cullman for the 2015 title, received 18 points and 10 boards from Evan Wiley. Tracey Burnett added 16 points and nine rebounds, and Ashton Ray had 12 points. Malik Burnett swiped seven steals.
Winston was accompanied on the All-Tournament Team by Bak, J. Wolgamott, both Burnetts and Jackson-Olin’s Antonio Copeland.

Hoover 42, Oak Mountain 39
The Buccaneers put all their money on Wes Banks with the championship on the line.
Cha-ching.
Banks drilled a 3 in front of his bench as time expired, setting off a wild celebration and sending Hoover to its third state tourney in five seasons. The Bucs’ bid for back-to-back state crowns will continue against No. 9 McGill-Toolen next Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.
Semifinal hero Wyatt Armstrong came up clutch for No. 10 Oak Mountain (25-8) again in the title tilt, hitting a game-tying 3-pointer with 20 ticks to go.
But that was before Banks, who finished with six points, came up with a little long-range magic of his own.
Johnathan Postell was picked for MVP after topping Hoover with 11 points and six rebounds. Matthew Rickman added eight points.
Payton Youngblood had 13 points, six boards and four blocks for the Eagles, who’re now 0-2 in regional finals. Armstrong closed out a strong regional showing with 10 points.
Postell was joined on the All-Tournament Team by fellow Buc Kevy Eason, Youngblood, Armstrong, James Clemens’ Trai James and Sparkman’s Maurice Anderson.

Tanner 59, Mars Hill Bible 51
It just wouldn’t be a state tournament if it didn’t include the Rattlers.
Markel Mull torched the Panthers for an MVP-worthy 24 points, and seventh-ranked Tanner (22-8) obtained its 17th state berth and eighth in the last 10 seasons.
Torey Smith didn’t miss a shot — he took two inside the arc, two behind it and two at the free throw line — en route to a 12-point showing. Fellow Rattler Jamal Townsend had a team-high 10 rebounds.
Mars Hill Bible (19-14), which knocked out a Cold Springs squad in sub-regionals fresh off an overtime area tourney title loss to Tanner, got 14 points from Ike Alexander and 11 from Sam Abernathy. Jacob Sparks added nine.
Mull was the main man on an All-Tournament Team filled out by Smith, the Panthers’ Chandler and Taylor McDaniel, Phil Campbell’s Peyton Thomas and Sulligent’s Duston Summerville.
