Briana Lodge rounded out the Lady Aggies’ top three finishers with second in the 400-meter dash and third in the 200-meter.

Holly Pond and Cold Springs were fifth and sixth, respectively.

Melissa Clingman claimed victory in the high jump (4-10) and added second-place showings in the shot put and discus. Fellow Bronco Mykenzie Heaton was second in the long and triple jumps, as was Haley Higginbotham in the 300-meter hurdles.

Cold Springs’ Rachel Haynes, Kaleigh Merring, Kyleigh Merring and Zoe Strawbridge were second in the 4×100-meter relay. So were Abi Burrow, Alyssa Jackson, Sadie Terry and Ashleigh White in the 4×800-meter. Merging was also third in the long jump.

Vinemont’s Leigh Ann Smithson was third in the 400-meter dash.

Cold Springs was runner-up on the boys side to host Falkville. The small-school rivals have split titles at four meets this season after finishing first (Falkville) and second in the state last year.

Christian Crandall and Austin Burwell paced the Eagles with a pair of individual wins apiece. Crandall was first in the 100- (11.86) and 200-meter (24.51) dashes, while Burwell was the hurdler to beat in the 110- (16.87) and 300-meter (42.51) races. Burrell was also second in the pole vault.

C.J. Lang capped off Cold Springs’ list of individual victors with first in the 3,200-meter run (10:45). River Banks, Crandall, Cayde Elliott and Jacob Lee teamed up for the triumph in the 4×100-meter relay (46.03), as did Andrew Blair, Burwell, Kramer Crider and Lang in the 4×800-meter (8:53).

Jared Stanley and Elliott were second in the 800-meter run and javelin, respectively. River Banks was third in the 200-meter dash.

Matt Cahoon collected a quartet of event victories for Holly Pond, which was third. The junior crushed the competition in the high jump (6-4), Shot put (45-.5), discus (136 feet) and javelin (164-3).

Todd Schwab aided the Broncos’ effort with a win in the triple jump (38-9.75). Tristan Priest was second in the shot put, and Mason May was third in the 110- and 300-meter hurdles.

Fairview’s Jacob Guthrie was third in the 400-meter dash.

The Cullman County Track and Field Championships will start Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. at Cold Springs. The meet was moved up from Thursday to avoid potential wet weather.

Huntsville Big Cat Invitational

The Lady Bearcats showed up in a big way at the Big Cat Invite, taking second only to the Class 7A host.

Tayla Sparg led the charge with first in the 100-meter hurdles — her time of 15.75 edged the runner-up by just two-hundredths of a second — and third in the 300-meter hurdles.

Tally Wilson, fresh off signing with Samford earlier in the week, won the pole vault. Her 12-foot clearance not only set the school and meet records but helped the senior topple her goal of vaulting her grade each of the last four years.

Lexi Daily was third in the triple jump.

Austin Elrod and Garrison Hill were second in the discus and pole vault for Cullman’s boys, who were fifth. Elrod’s heave of 163-4 was a school record.

Walker Caretti (400-meter dash) and Logan Shugarts (300-meter hurdles) were third in their respective events. So were Caretti, Tucker Franey, Will Kress and Shugarts in the 4×400-meter relay, and Joey Franklin, Franey, Eli Wilhite and Caretti in the 4×800-meter relay.
