PREP ROUNDUP: Fairview leads county golf tourney, individual title up for grabs

Fairview’s boys grabbed a sizable lead following Day 1 of the Cullman County Golf Tournament at TP Country Club on Tuesday.
Austin Scott (81), Hunter Whitehead (85), Hunter McKelvy (86) and Seth Lancaster (89) combined to card a team score of 341, bettering second-place Good Hope by 31 strokes (372).
The Raiders’ best rounds belonged to Cole Pearson (82), Josh Cofer (91), Alex Owens (95) and Riley Eisner (104).
West Point (447) and Hanceville (492) sit in third and fourth place, respectively.
Scott will head into Day 2 with a one-shot advantage over Pearson and a two-stroke cushion over Holly Pond’s Dawson Foust (83).
On the girls side, the Lady Aggies (291) lead Hanceville (355) by 64 shots.
Dalys Mullican (92), Maci Yeager (94) and Aladie Howse (105) were Fairview’s top-three scores.
West Point’s Lindsey Rodgers (88) shot the lowest round of the day.
Wednesday’s final round will take place at Cullman Golf Course starting at 1 p.m.
Prep Softball
Cullman 12, Decatur 0 (five innings)
The Lady Bearcats carried over momentum from last weekend’s Claw Classic to blast the Red Raiders on Tuesday afternoon.
Olivia Schwaiger struck out seven batters and didn’t allow a single runner in five perfect innings to earn the victory.
Hannah Morton and McKensi Burks hammered home runs for Cullman (23-12) and finished the bout with two hits and three RBIs apiece.
Other contributors were Elli Dixon and Schwaiger, two hits and two RBIs each; Kylie Witcher, two hits and one RBI; Claire Jenkins, two hits; Tiffani Schwaiger, one hit and one RBI; and Taiya Ponder and Sierra Easterwood, one hit apiece.
The Bearcats, who are 5-0 in area play, have won five straight.
Falkville 6, Cold Springs 4
Despite a four-hit outing from Rilee White, the 2A No. 10 Eagles dropped their second area game to the Blue Devils this season.
White’s solo homer in the fifth inning and two-run single in the sixth helped draw Cold Springs (14-9, 3-2) to within one, but Falkville had answers at every turn to hold on for the win.
Madison Holmes tallied an RBI single, while Bailey West, Victoria Freeman and Kylon Hamby each had one base knock.
White struck out nine in the loss.
Prep Soccer
Cullman 6, John Carroll 0
The 6A No. 1 Bearcats roared to an easy home triumph on Tuesday.
Gui Albuquerque (two), Seth Andrews, Isaac Rodriguez, Peyton Brown and Cole Gerding amassed the goals, while Ben Walker (three), Miguel Tizapa and Rodriguez had assists for Cullman, which improved to 15-3-2.
K.J. Potter recorded two saves. Jaron Potter notched one.
St. Bernard 3, West Point 0
Christian Peterson, Benjamin Borths and Anthony Diaz each tallied a goal for the Saints in a home win.
Graham Sanders manned the net in the victory.
St. Bernard 2, West Point 0
Zana Wilson scored both goals, while Jillian Ivey pitched the shutout in earlier girls action.
The Saints led 1-0 at halftime of each triumph.
Prep Baseball
West Point 6, Fairview 3
The Warriors, as they did last month, downed the Aggies in a rematch of this year’s county championship game on Tuesday.

Prep Tennis
The Bearcats recorded respective 8-1 victories over James Clemens during Tuesday’s match.
Donny Camp, Connor Borresen, Hunter Manley, Jacob Lambert and Check Freeman rolled to singles wins, while Camp/Borresen, Lambert/Manley and Freeman/Parker Adams triumphed in doubles.
For the Lady Bearcats, Lilli Watson, Kacie Donaldson, Gentry Bussman, Kate Hood and Emily Graves picked up singles wins, while Watson/Donaldson, Bussman/Hood and Graves/Emily Mullins shined in doubles play.
Cullman will travel to Briarwood on Thursday.
