Paying your dues, or not. The Mt. Olive Fire District has filed a lawsuit against the city of Garendale, charging that properties that were recently annexed into the city did not have six years of fire dues paid to the district – as required by state law – before the annexations could be made official. The suit applies to four land parcels annexed in 2014. Gardendale City Attorney Ken Thompson said that the lawsuit has “no basis in law or in fact.” District Judge Jospeh Boohaker will hold a hearing in the case on July 27.

Sports: Barons’ streak snapped. Wilson Contreras hit a two-run double for the Tennessee Smokies, which pushed his team to a 3-1 win over the Birmingham Barons at a sold-out Regions Field Tuesday night. The loss ended a five-game win streak for the Barons, who close out their five-game series with Tennessee tonight at 7:05.
