They said the suspect, 53-year-old Jaquan Huston of Salem, will be charged with first degree murder. Police say he stabbed the victim in the back with a knife. His motive remains unclear at this time.

The victim, who has not been identified by authorities, was taken by ambulance to a hospital in nearby Salem, where he was later pronounced dead.

Officers responded to the restaurant just after 6 p.m. By that point, Huston had fled the scene on foot to his home in Salem. He was quickly taken into custody by Salem officers and brought to the Peabody police station.

Police stressed Saturday night that there was no danger to mall or restaurant patrons. P.F. Chang’s remained closed to the public for the rest of the night as investigators finished processing the murder scene.

Huston is due to be arraigned in Peabody District Court Monday on the murder charge.
