It’s Friday, finally…

Off and running. The 2016 presidential campaign got its official start with a raucous debate among the top 10 Republican candidates Thursday night in Cleveland – and if any of them thought the Fox News panel of moderators would go easy on them, they soon found out otherwise. Current front-runner Donald Trump brought boos from the Quicken Loans Arena crowd when he refused to pledge his support to the eventual GOP nominee, and was also the target by moderator Megyn Kelly of a pointed question about derogatory comments he had made about women in the past. No clear winner or loser emerged, though, and flash polls afterward

Murder charges filed. As expected, authorities have added charges of capital murder against Misty Lynn Wright and Johnathon Talley in the death of Wright’s 3-year-old daughter, Jettie Adams, on Monday. The two suspects were originally charged with aggravated assault, in what investigators call a horrific beating that left the girl for dead out on the porch of Wright’s home in Trafford.

Sports: Get out of town. The Birmingham Barons won the last of their five-game series at Tennessee last night by a 7-6 score in 10 innings. After a Smokies grand slam out them ahead 6-5, Keenyn Wallker drove in the tying run with a hit in the eighth, and the winning run in the 10th, sending home Danny Hayes each time. The Barons start a five-game set in Pensacola tonight.
