It’s Monday again, back to the grind…
Weather: Sweltering. The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for all of central Alabama through 9 p.m. Highs will reach the middle 90s with heat index values reaching as high as 107, but there’s also a 50 percent chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms. Those storms continue tonight with lows in the lower 70s. Slightly cooler on Tuesday with highs in the lower 90s and a 30 percent chance of storms.
Manhunt. Lawmen continue to hunt for Kevin Campbell, a prisoner who escaped from a work-release program in Troy last week and has been seen in the Trafford area. Local law enforcement has been trying to find Campbell, who is white, 5-foot-8 and weighs about 178 pounds, since early Saturday morning. Meanwhile, operations at nearby Mortimer Jordan High School will not be affected today; buses and classes will run on normal schedules, and JefCoEd Board President Dean Taylor says that school personnel will run a check of the facility – as they always do – before it opens to students this morning.
Sports: So long, Frank. Pro Football Hall of Fame member Frank Gifford died on Sunday. He was one of the best known stars in the NFL in the 1950s and 1960s, as both a running back and defensive back for the New York Giants. But many football fans knew him even better from his quarter century with ABC’s Monday Night Football, where he served as play-by-play announcer alongside commentators Don Meredith and Howard Cosell during the show’s heyday. He later moved to color commentary when Al Michaels took over play-by-play duites. Griffith was married to longtime television personality Kathie Lee Gifford, currently a host on NBC’s Today show. Frank Gifford was 84.
