Cullman picked up seven votes despite having last Friday off but remained just outside the Class 6A top 10 when the Alabama Sports Writers Association released its latest prep football poll late Tuesday night.

The Bearcats (2-0) were tied for 11th for the second straight week. They’re seven votes back of No. 10 Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa (1-2), even with 3-0 Bessemer City at 21 and four ahead of Florence (1-2), the very foe they’ll open region play against this Friday.

A win could very well spell a return to the top 10 for either program. Cullman is seeking its first appearance in the rankings since cracking the 5A list Oct. 18, 2013.

Cold Springs is in for a home showdown against Tanner, which moved up to second in 2A.
