Mortimer Jordan overwhelmed visiting Springville with big plays, as the 10th-ranked Blue Devils shut out the Tigers 43-0 on Friday night.

Spencer Brown scored touchdowns on runs of 61 and 74 yards, and also sacked the Springville quarterback in the end zone for a safety. He finished with 150 yards rushing on just five carries, and defensively he had 5½ tackles (3½ for loss) and a sack.

Jordan quarterback Duncan Hodges threw for two touchdowns — a 30-yard pass to Jacob Dean late in the first half, and a 58-yard bomb to Trey Peters early in the second.

Walker McCleney also found paydirt from 40 yards out in the first quarter, and Kalin Stringer finished off the Devils’ scoring in the third period on a 2-yard run — the only score for Jordan from inside the red zone. Stringer ran six times for 78 yards.

The Devils dominated the offensive statistics, gaining 477 yards compared to Springville’s 88, and totaling 16 first downs against the Tigers’ four.

Hodges was 10-of-18 passing for 178 yards, with one interception.

The victory keeps alive the Devils streak of scoring 40 points or more in each victory this season.

Mortimer Jordan (8-1, 6-1 region) has clinched the second playoff seed in the region, despite Alexandria losing to Anniston on Friday; the Valley Cubs hold the tiebreaker for the top spot with their win over Jordan.

The Devils close out the regular season next Thursday night at Fayette County, and then host a first round playoff game against J.O. Johnson of Huntsville the following week.
