The Kimberly Fire and Rescue Service has a new chief.

Chris Hardin, who is a full-time firefighter with the Hueytown department, has taken over the vacant position, Mayor Bob Ellerbrock said in Monday’s regular session of the Kimberly City Council.

Hardin will stay on with Hueytown while serving as Kimberly’s chief. He replaces Brian Gober, who resigned this summer.

Ellerbrock said that the fire department is still waiting for materials to arrive before construction can continue on the new fire station. The metal building has been delayed for several weeks.

The new concrete parking lot and foundation slab is in place for the building, as is a concrete safe room designed to protect staffers in case of a tornado, such as the one which destroyed the previous station building on April 28, 2014.

In other business, the council:

  • announced that the annual Christmas Parade, sponsored jointly by Kimberly and Morris, will take place on Dec. 12.
  • approved spending a total of just over $2,500 for tires and repairs for fire trucks, plus rain gear for workers directing traffic at local schools.
