Good Thursday morning to you…

Late classes today. Nearly all local school systems started classes two hours late today because of the extreme cold, with Tabernacle Christian School in Gardendale being an exception. No word yet on whether that will occur again Friday, but with temperatures expected to be 10 or more degrees warmer, regular schedules could likely resume.
“Je suis Charlie.” France is reeling today after terrorists linked to Muslim extremists gunned down at least 11 people at the offices of a satirical newspaper in Paris. Three gunmen entered during an editorial-board meeting at Charlie Hebdo (“weekly Charlie” in English, referring to Charlie Brown in the Peanuts comic strip the paper carried), and shot and killed the editor and several staffers, as well as police guards inside and outside the building. The attacks were in retaliation to cartoons depicting the prophet Muhammad, as well as other anti-Islamic cartoons and stories the paper had carried. Once of the attackers has since been captured. In response, thousands of French citizens gathered in a square in Paris to support the newspaper, chanting “Je suis Charlie” (“I am Charlie”).
