Wow, it’s Wednesday…
Weather: We’ll take it. Sunny skies today with highs in the lower 50s and nighttime lows in the upper 30s. We have a slight chance of scattered showers on Thursday, with highs in the lower 60s and lows in the upper 30s. Rain chances are 20 percent, mainly after noon.
Pinson woman killed. Ana Lyn Kurilla, 25, died when her vehicle ran off Cedar Mountain Road near Emerald Lake on Monday afternoon. The vehicle ran into a ravine; authorities aren’t sure what caused the crash. Kurilla was taken to UAB Hospital, where she died from her injuries.
Walking back. Patricia Todd, Alabama’s only openly gay state legislator, is backing off a bit on threats to expose extramarital affairs of fellow lawmakers who oppose gay marriage. Todd made the threat om her Facebook page shortly after a federal judge ruled in favor of a lesbian couple married in another state, who wanted to adopt a child in Alabama. But when she appeared on the left-leaning MSNBC cable-news channel Tuesday, Todd backed off on her threats, saying, “Obviously I don’t have proof… but the rumor mill’s pretty strong in Montgomery.”
Sports: Rockets fall. Woodlawn was victorious over Gardendale in both the girls and boys basketball games Tuesday night. The Colonels girls came from behind to beat the Rockets 37-36, despite 10 points from Alissa Cornelius. And Marcus Coley scored 13 points to lead the Rocket boys in a 48-39 loss to the sixth-ranked Colonels. Elsewhere, Mortimer Jordan’s boys defeated Locust Fork 62-58; no report on the girls game yet.
