It’s Wednesday, for what it’s worth…
Weather: We’ve seen better. This morning’s fog will eventually give way to mostly cloudy skies, with highs in the middle 40s and lows near freezing. Thursday will see a chance of light rain in the middle of the day, otherwise cloudy and chilly with highs in the middle 40s and lows in the upper 20s.
Lane squeeze. ALDOT will close an additional lane of I-65 northbound today through the I-22 construction zone to facilitate work on a bridge girder. That closure will continue through this evening’s outbound rush hour, and is scheduled to end Thursday morning at 6. Allow extra time for the commute from downtown this evening.
Sports: A losing night. Most of our local prep basketball teams lost on Tuesday, with the exceptions on the boys side being Hayden and Corner. The Wildcats escaped with a two-point at Moody, while the Yellow Jackets edged Fultondale by that same margin. Elsewhere, Gardendale fell at Huffman, Mortimer Jordan’s boys and girls were swept at Springville, and likewise for Locust Fork at J.B. Pennington — the Hornet girls lost by nine points in overtime… College football: LSU has hired away an assistant from Alabama to be their new defensive coordinator. Kevin Steele, the Tide’s linebacker coach, was announced as the Tigers’ new DC on Tuesday. Steele was previously at defensive coordinator at Clemson before two seasons with Nick Saban’s staff.
