Once there was enough snow sticking to the ground to ensure a sled could gain some steam Wednesday afternoon, downtown Cullman residents Jennifer and Jamie Speakman knew exactly where to go.

The couple and their two children Drake and Emma walked to the nearby hill on the back side of Cullman High School for a few hours of sledding, and were soon joined by several people looking for a slope to take advantage of the rare winter weather.

“It’s the perfect hill, we always look forward to it when it snows,” Jamie said.

With a big smile, Emma said they wanted to stay and play for as long as possible.

Fellow Cullman native Brooke McCrary took advantage of the winter wonderland to build a snowman in her front yard, though she was having a bit of trouble getting it all to stick together. Though snow days are typically reserved for kids and teens, McCrary said she was glad to get some time to relive some childhood fun.

“It’s especially great when you get a snow day from work,” she laughed.
