Center Fielder Walker McCleney has pulled off one of the rarest feats at any level of baseball: an inside-the-park grand slam home run.

McCleney’s round-tripper brought in four runs for Mortimer Jordan in the top of the eighth inning, which was enough to get the visiting Blue Devils past McAdory by an 11-9 score in a baseball tri-series on Saturday.

McCleney was 3-for-4 overall with a double as well, and scored four runs.

Pitcher Taylor Goodwin smacked a three-run homer in the first inning, and struck out six Yellow Jacket batters in 4-2/3 innings. Hunter Cornelius got the win in 22/3 innings of relief.

Malik Moses was 2-for-6 and scored twice for McAdory.

Mortimer Jordan 18, Center Point 3 (5 innings): Pitcher Levi Faucett’s three-run homer capped an eight-run romp in the fourth inning for the Devils (4-0) in Saturday’s opening game.

Andrew Warren was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, and Dylan Burgett went 2-for-2 and scored twice for Jordan.

Gardendale 6-6, Oak Grove 4-0: John Michael Mathews smacked four hits over both games, and drove in three runs as the Rockets swept a Saturday doubleheader.

Blake Zumbado hit a two-run double in the first game, and Dylan Oliver was 2-for-2 with an RBI, as the Rockets withstood a three-run Spartan rally in the seventh inning.

In the nightcap, Brady Sellers was 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and two runs driven in. Andy McDuffee added an RBI double.

Jacob Hallmark pitched a complete-game shutout, allowing just two hits and one hit batsman while striking out six.

Corner 16, Jemison 6 (6 innings): Devne Daniel was 3-for-4 with a two-run triple and four RBIs, as the Yellow Jackets scored six runs in each of the final two innings for a mercy-rule win in the first game of a Saturday tri-series.

Dillon McCaleb was also 3-for-4 with three runs driven home, and Kevin Bryant hit a pair of doubles.

Michael Savage got the win in 4-2/3 innings of relief, allowing two hits and no runs.

Pell City 10, Corner 0 (6 innings): The Yellow Jackets were on the wrong end of a mercy-rule game in Saturday’s nightcap, as Pell City pitcher Miles Masters threw nine strikeouts over six innings in the shutout.

Masters gave up just three hits, all singles, to McCaleb, Jackson Tavel and Jake Crew.

Chris Huff took the loss on the mound for the Jackets, yielding eight runs and nine hits in 3-1/3 innings.
