Elderly driver from Kimberly dies after Thursday-morning crash in Morris

An elderly driver has died from injuries suffered Thursday morning during a car crash in Morris.
William Frederick Evans, Jr., 83, of Kimberly died about an hour and a half after the 1996 Oldsmobile Cutlass he was driving crossed over Morris Majestic Road, went up an embankment and hit a tree.
A Jefferson County Coroner’s Office medical examiner said that other motorists observed Evans’ car going at a high rate of speed along northbound U.S. 31. The car went onto the shoulder to go around another car, then went across Morris Majestic Road at the intersection with 31.
The crash occurred at 10:52 a.m. Evans was taken to UAB Hospital, and was declared dead at 12:11 p.m.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
